What is Depression: Generally, depression is one type of discomfort and disorder respectively of mind and mental health. It is considered a serious condition in medical science. It has been found that one person is suffering from depression out of five people. This is a common disease in the world. A million cases happened per year in every country.

Bad times and good times come in our lives. As we know the wheel of fortune turns. If some bad events happened, some people take it as an accident and forget it. But some people depressed in those events. If bad moments take huge times on someone's life then, as a result, it can because of death.

Symptoms of Depression: 

  • The sadness of mood: The mind is always sad in spite of any joy. Altima their minds are upset.
  • Guilty feelings: People feel guilt. They blame themselves for small things. Then they feel guilt.
  • Loss of interest: When people are suffering from depression they lose their interests. They become less interested in everything.
  • Weight changes: In normal cases, hunger reduces. As a result of major people who are suffering from depression lose their weight. In some minor cases, hunger enhances and increases their weight.
  • Loss of concentration: People lose their concentration during their depressive lives. Thay can't focus on their works.
  • Sleep abnormalities: In general, people who have depression sleep wane.
  • Dangerous activity: In the end, some people think about suicide. They think they are no values in their lives. This is so dangerous and last symptom.

Causes of depression: There have many causes of depression. The event doesn't vary in coming depressed in your life. In some cases, normally it came.
Generally two causes of depression.

  • Biological cause: These are changes of chemicals in the brain. Chemicals are serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. If these three are reduced in the brain then depression happens.
  • Physiological cause: It is about bad happened in people's lives. As like as demotion of business, job, career, a distance of relationship. The surrounding bad environment is also caused.

We have three qualities which are Satva ( Purity), Rajas ( Passion), and Tamas ( Darkness). These are linked to our minds.

Satva means goodness, energetic mind, peace of mind, harmonious mind. Rajas mean passionate but confused. They stay inactive mood. They got angry in small matters. They want anything immediately. Tamas means darkness. Negativity also denotes tamas. Satva, Rajas, and Tamas these all three stays in every people. But Satva should be more, Rajas should be less, Tamas should be less. If you have Tamas then you have serious depressive life.

Cure of Depression: Depression cures by treatment. There are many treatments. Some ayurvedic or allopathic medicines are given. But Yoga can also cure your depression by calming your mind. Yoga is not only physical exercise but also mental and spiritual exercises. Yoga can calm your mind or brain. Yoga movements and pranayama have big roles to prevent depression.

Before practicing yoga warp-up is essential. So warm-up your body first.

1. Supta Baddha Konasana ( Recycling bound angle pose): 

Starting process: Sit on the floor, stretch your feet. Now sit like Baddha Konasana. Keep your hands behind. Touch the floor by your palms. Place your elbows. Press your elbows against the floor and down your torso. Keeping touch your heels lie on the floor. Stay in this position for 1 minute. Keep normal inhalation and exhalation. If you feel discomfort then use cushion or yoga blocks to support yourself. Come back to the previous position. Relax by stretching your feet.

2. Halasana (Plow Pose): 

Starting process: Lie down on the floor in Shavasana. Keep your hand on the floor. Touch the floor by your palms and straighten your hands. Straight and stretch your legs together. Brings your legs closer. Now lift your legs slowly, keep it behind your head. Touch your toes on the floor. Keep breathing normally. Hold this posture for 10-30 seconds. Don't do this yoga below thirteen years old.

3. Ardha Pincha Mayurasana (Dolphin Pose): 

Starting process: Do tabletop position. Now keep your elbows on the floor and interlace your fingers. Press it against the floor. Tuck your toes. As you exhale lift up your knees and hips slowly. Keep normal breathing. You will be feeling pressure on your forearms, elbows, head. Hold this posture for 5 breaths. Now exhale and come back from this posture. Relax in Balasana.

Starting process: Sit down in any serene environment where the flow of air is good. Keep a smile on your face. Keep your eyes closed for some time. Feel the peace and waves in your body. Keep the index finger on your ears. There is a cartilage between your ear and cheek skin. Put your finger there.
Take a long deep breath and while exhaling, gently press the cartilage. You can hold the cartilage pressed or release it with the finger pressed again. While doing this process, make long buzzing sounds (like beeswax).

You can also make a sound out of a low sound, but it is more beneficial to have a loud sound.
After that take long deep breaths and repeat this process 3-4 times.

3. Udgeeth Pranayama: Udgeeth Pranayama is so effective for depressed people. It makes you calm, energetic. This asana reduces your stress, depression. It raises your balance.

Starting process: Before performing Udgith Pranayama, practice Bhramari Pranayama.
Sit in Padmasana, Sukhasana, or Siddhasana. It is believed that while sitting in front of Pranayama, sitting in the east direction gives more benefits. Leave your body loose, there should be no tension in any part of the body and keep your back straight. Attach the index finger and thumb tip of both hands. Close your eyes and concentrate. Take a breath and exhale before starting Udgith Pranayama. Chant Om while inhaling and exhaling. Chant the entire sound with the rhythm of Omamamamamamam. Repeat this process 5–11 times.
